Going to Turku, because why not!
There’s plenty to see and do in Turku, the ancient capital of Finland. History, culture, art and food, it’s all there in Turku. And it’s all within a walking distance from either Omena hotel. And remember that if you want to stay in the city, Omena hotels are the cheapest options.
Food and romance on the riverside
Aurajoki river is like a small piece of Southern Europe. The most loved restaurants can be found on the riverside and the old ships converted into restaurants and bars tempt people with their music and colourfull drinks during the summer period. The foodies of Omena team have fallen in love with restaurant Hügge, their lunch is option no. 1 for Omena team in Turku. The best cakes in all of Finland can be found in Gaggui Kaffela cafe, which is halfway between the railway station and Omena hotel Humalistonkatu.
History and theme parks
The main sights in the former capital are Turku cathedral and the castle of Turku. The medieval castle is quite the experience for all ages! We recommend a guided tour, where you hear juicy details of the history of the castle and the city of Turku. More history can be absorbed in Aboa Vetus and Ars Nova museum, where history, archeology and modern art meet. And if you’re into the dark side of humans, you should visit the former prison of Kakola that has the best views over Turku. And of course take the free funicular to the top of the Kakola hill!
If you want more action, check out Flow park or Super park. Also the Turku archipelago is worth a day-trip – you can take a cruise or rent a bike to get around. And of course, after a busy and eventfull day you can rest in your peaceful room at Omena, either Omena Hotel Kauppiaskatu or Omena Hotel Humalistonkatu. (links to booking from both hotel names)
In Turku for work?
Our best tips for a work trip: peace to work is to be found in your own hotel room, but there are also many nice cafes nearby if you want some background noise. And there are bars for a quick bite around the corner or you can get a snack of your own choice at the small supermarket close to the hotel. There’s a minibar, a microwave oven and a kettle in your own room.
